Amy Willerton – message from Blacksheep Management
Naturally, Amy’s decision to provide an interview to The Sunday Mirror is disappointing but unfortunately not surprising. Amy has changed from the girl we all met during the filming of Kate’s show.
Amy is beautiful and bright and will doubtless have a number of opportunities. However, it was made clear to her that if she wanted to work with us she would need to do so on an exclusive basis and that we would not try to make quick money from her but build her a long and sustainable career. The point was not to recreate Kate – which would frankly be impossible – but rather to develop Amy into a long term brand in her own right. Clearly this is not something that will happen over-night and would take considerable time and effort on our behalf.
If we were to do this we had to create a clean platform from which to launch Amy. To this end we have spent some considerable time and money clearing up a couple of reputational issues for Amy so that people could not take advantage of her new profile. Raising her profile higher before these were dealt with would have exposed Amy to potential harm and as an agency we will not do that. We need to make clear that we won’t disclose these issues which are no more than many young girls face when they are still a little immature.
As Amy is aware we have only been able to work with her properly since she was announced as the winner on Kate’s show, because we were embargoed from doing so before then. That announcement was made on 6th December 2011. We discussed with Amy when would be best to launch her to the world and it was decided that this should happen after the Christmas period. This happened on the 20th January, just 5 weeks ago. Amy’s launch was done in good faith and before we had agreed a contract with her. After the launch Amy decided she did not want to work with us on an exclusive basis. We have no issue with that as we are not interested in forcing client’s to work with us but this was something that all the contestants on Katie’s show were told they would need to do. Naturally with Amy refusing to agree such it undermined our ability to manage her in the way envisaged. This was Amy’s choice.
There have been no broken promises to Amy and it is sad that she is claiming such. The prizes for the show were:
. A contract with Blacksheep Management – Amy has chosen not to sign this, it is not something we have failed to deliver;
. The use of Range Rover car for a year – This too was delivered but Amy has been unable to get insurance. Alternatives were being considered;
. A luxury holiday – again, Amy could have taken this. During the time she wanted to go away we made a 5 star villa in Marbella available to her. We are sorry that Amy seems to think this is below her. Had she wanted to go on different dates other options would have been available.
Had she wanted to commit and allow us to manage her in line with the long term vision that we had planned for her then she would have been a success. Unfortunately she has people around her that think they know better. She has taken the short term option of doing a story to slag off Kate, that’s fine – it is what a lot of people do to get 5 minutes of fame but it is not the way to build a long term career.
We wish Amy every success.
